The Company's Research and Development unit is the first in-house Research & Development unit to be recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt. of India.
The R&D center is actively involved in development of new products, upgradation, import substitution, economisation and technology absorption. The R&D and QC laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments.
The Company's manufacturing units are ISO 9000 accredited.
Major achievements of R&D center :
- Shalimar was the first paint company in India to develop indigenously high build zinc silicate coatings.
- Shalimar was the first paint company to produce radiation resistant coating for nuclear power plants.
- The R&D unit was the first to develop Electro-print marking paint as an import substitution item in India which was used as a prefabrication primer in Cochin Shipyard.
- Shalimar's food and pesticide lacquer system is a pioneer in can coatings field. It was the first company to manufacture indigenously epoxy/vinyl system for 3 piece beer cans.
- In Aviation Coatings epoxy/vinyl system has been developed for ester lubricant resistant aircraft finish.
