What is a paint?
Paint is a mixture of 4 different ingredients. Those are pigments, Binders, Solvents & Additives. Pigments give the color and lend opacity to the paint film. Binders give the gripping power to the paint film. It holds the pigments and gives gloss to the surface. Whereas solvents helps for mixing and application. Additives helps in holding of the paint to the surface of pigment to pigment. Why is painting required?
Painting has two main purposes :
- To protect the surface from rain, sunlight, weather, rust, chemical environment, heat, cold, termites etc.
- It enhances the aesthetic value and beautifies the painted surface.
How to get the best results of a Paint job?
To get the best results out of a paint job we must follow the following steps.
Steps before painting
- The surface should be dry before painting.
- It should be rubbed with sand paper so that it removes all loose and dust particles or rust in case of metals. It must also be free from all kinds of oily or greasy substance.
- Any old paint should be removed from the surface.
- If there are any white ants/ termites (in case of wooden surface), 2/3 coats of Kiricide to be applied on the naked surface. It will go inside the wooden surface. Allow it to dry completely for 15 days before any kind of application.
- Apply one coat of primer as the condition may be, this will grip the surface.
- Apply one coat of Magic wall putty or Wood Filler on the dried primed surface. This will fill the cracks, undulation & dents on the surface.
- Allow it to dry fully. Cut the surface with sand paper (wet/ dry) nicely. After the surface becomes smooth, apply one coat of primer again. This will reduce the moisture absorbing power of the surface as maximum as possible.Apply 2/3 coats of finished product for best finish, gloss, sheen, lusture & richness.
Defects in Painting
Sometimes after spending money and using the right brand we cannot get full satisfaction out of the product. We blame the painter & the painter blames the paint. But paint defects could be due to many reasons, such as:
- Atmospheric & climatic conditions.
- Improper & incorrect painting methods
- Defective painting surface
- Improper surface preparation.
- Other Defects.
Important for the customers
- Buy Shalimar brands from any authorised Shalimar Paints Dealer. Go for the All Shalimar Look .
- If you find dampness in any wall, find out the reason for this and rectify it before painting.
- In case you find the source of dampness in the ground, it is advisable to cut 1.5"x2" grooves between the wall and skirting of the room.
- Surface preparation is very important. Better the surface cleaning & preparation, better will be the life & gloss of the paint and lesser would be the cost ultimately.
- Read the container carefully. Direction for use and thinning ratio are clearly written on it. Please follow them.
- Do remember that it is always better to apply 2/3 thin coats than to apply 1 thick coat.
- Please do not hurry while applying the paint. You must give proper time to dry for every coat of paint applied.
- You must ensure that the area to be painted is well ventilated.
