Do’s

Consider taping strips of your shortlisted colours to the walls at different times of the day to check how it looks in different lighting before you paint your walls.

Before you decide to add color to a room, the first thing you should consider is the existing colors in your room. This may include your flooring, furniture and ceiling.

Calculate how much paint you'll need for your painting project. It's always best to get your paint mixed at one time.

Choose the right clothing & shoes, to make sure that you can move freely and dont have to worry about getting your clothes dirty.

Gather everything you'll need to get the job done and set up a "paint station" in or near the room to make your job easier.

Choose the appropriate rollers and brushes. Ask your paint dealer to guide you through the options and help you choose the suitable equipment for your project.

Prime the walls if you are painting on a wall for the first time or if you are repainting a wall from one extreme colour to another.

Open windows or run fans to provide a constant supply of fresh air, which will help the paint to dry faster.

Don’ts

dont-img1

Don’t choose extremely contrasting colors or more than three or four colors for a room. Too many shades can make a room look busy or cluttered.

Don’t paint out of order — start with the ceiling, then walls, the trim and finish with the doors. Make sure to give enough drying time after every step.

Don’t apply latex on an oil finish and vice versa without first sanding the walls and wiping away the dust particles with a tack cloth.

Don’t paint directly over wallpaper as the moisture from the paint can easily loosen the wallpaper giving it an undesirable finish.

Don’t close off the room. Keep doors and windows open to allow proper ventilation switch on the exhaust fans for a fresh feel.

Don’t forget to clean your brush and rollers if you plan to use them again or you’ll find yourself throwing out ruined brushes way more often than you'd like.

Don’t reattach the lid without cleaning the rim of the paint can properly. Doing this will prevent the paint from drying out.

Don’t pick a rainy day or humid days for your paint job. In both cases, the walls will take much longer to dry.
